Libraries aren’t just rows of books and study nooks—they’re vibrant spaces full of inspiration, discovery, and growth. That’s the idea behind my latest project: an illustrated mural for LSUA’s James C. Bolton Library that captures the space’s dynamic energy and ambition of its students. The mural celebrates the start of every student’s journey into learning and creativity. In the artwork, you’ll find a diverse group of students interacting with books, tablets, and computers—each a nod to how we explore and absorb knowledge. Bold colors, mixed with lively, dynamic lines, bring the scene to life and echo the spirited vibe of LSUA.
I chose bold colors that align with LSUA’s branding while giving the library space an energetic, modern feel. The flowing background elements symbolize the ever-changing nature of education, evolving with every student who walks through the doors.
At the heart of the design are the students themselves. I wanted each character to mirror the diverse community at LSUA, reminding us that education is open to everyone, no matter where they come from or what dreams they chase. Whether studying independently or collaborating with friends, every figure plays a part in the larger story of learning and achievement.
My creative process started with some rough sketches in Photoshop before I moved over to Procreate to bring the piece to life. This blend of planning and spontaneity allowed me to keep the design both precise and full of character. I even experimented with textured brushes to give the mural a soft, chalk-like quality—almost like stepping into a warm, illustrated storybook.
This project challenged me to mix art with storytelling to create a welcoming space. I’m deeply grateful to LSUA for entrusting me with this piece. I hope this artwork inspires countless stories that will be made at the Bolton Library.
